Root canal treatment, rubber dam isolation

Why is it necessary to use a dental dam during a root canal treatment?

The dental dam / rubber dam is a rubber is a rubber sheet which can completely isolate one or more tooth, even simultaneously.

It’s indispensable to ensure the appropriate standard of dental work and it’s also essential for your protection (e.g. it prevents the inhalation of any material / tool).

We cut a hole on the rubber dam in the right place, then we use special tools to place it on the treated area / tooth. This device ensures an infection-free treatment! (Just think about the bacteria in your saliva - it becomes immediately clear why it’s so important to use the rubber dam during root canal treatments!)

The dental dam can be used during many other interventions in the preservation dentistry, such as: cementation of the inlay / onlay, making aesthetic dental fillings.

What are the advantages of its usage?

- It keeps the area to be treated dry and infection-free!
- It prevents contact between the prepared cavity and the saliva. Furthermore, the filling material can also be applied in place under optimal conditions.
- It protects soft tissues and the oral cavity from the possible harmful effects of the chemicals used during the treatment.
- During the removal of the amalgam filling, you don’t have to afraid of swallowing the amalgam.
- It keeps the canal treated tooth clean and dry during the treatments. Thus, besides achieving more efficient work, the intervention becomes more secure.
- It reduce treatment time!

Putting it on takes a very short time, it’s fixed with a clasp of the appropriate shape and size. Rubber dam doesn’t bother you when swallowing, there’s no discomfort. The absolutely recommended areas are root canal treatment and root filling.
